    Ask Your Question
    What are UTM parameters?

Short tags added to the end of a link (like ?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=paid_social) that tell Google Analytics where a visitor came from. Without them, traffic from emails, WhatsApp messages and many apps shows up as "direct", and you can't tell which campaign worked.

    Which fields do I need?

Source, medium and campaign are the three that matter. Use term for paid keywords and content to compare two versions of an ad or two links in the same email.

Should I use UTM links on my own website?

No. Only use them on links that point to your site from somewhere else: ads, emails, social posts, QR codes. UTM tags on internal links start a new session in Google Analytics and erase the visitor's real source.

    Why lowercase everything?

Google Analytics treats Facebook and facebook as two different sources, which splits your reports. Picking one style (lowercase, underscores instead of spaces) and sticking to it keeps the data clean.
