Where does that link actually go?
Follow every redirect hop with its status code and timing, and check that all versions of your address end up at one page.

Ask Your QuestionWhat is the difference between a 301 and a 302 redirect?
A 301 (or 308) says the page has moved permanently, so search engines move the old address's rankings to the new one. A 302 (or 307) says the move is temporary, so search engines keep the old address in results. Using a 302 for a permanent move is one of the most common causes of lost rankings after a redesign.
Why does it check http, https, www and non-www?
To a search engine, http://example.com, https://example.com, http://www.example.com and https://www.example.com are four different addresses. They should all redirect to one version. If they don't, you can end up with duplicate pages competing against each other.
How many redirects in a row is too many?
One is ideal. Google follows up to about ten, but every extra hop adds delay for visitors and makes it more likely something breaks. Update old links and redirects so they point straight at the final address.
Do you store the addresses I check?
No. We don't save addresses or results. To prevent abuse, we keep an anonymous count of checks per connection for one hour.

Moving to a new website or domain?
We plan every redirect before launch, test them, and watch Search Console afterwards, so you keep the traffic you have already earned.
